I’ve been playing around with the Marcelle BB Cream ($22.50 CDN, available online and at Canadian drugstores) since last November when I first got my hands on it at the Annabelle/Marcelle Spring 2012 preview event. Since BB Creams are becoming super popular in North America now- I thought it was time to review this one as many of you have been asking me about it!
The Packaging
This BB Cream comes packaged in a sleek box, and looks like its in a squeeze-tube however it actually has a pump-top dispenser. I probably would have preferred just a standard squeeze-tube, as I like that method best for dispensing as much product as I want without any waste. I find that one full pump of product is enough for a sheer layer over the entire face, and I usually end up adding another 1/2 to full pump if I need extra coverage.
The Product
This BB Cream is different in a few ways from traditional Asian BB Creams. It feels much more like a tinted moisturizer (not as thick and pasty as most BB creams I’ve tried in the past). It absorbs much easier into the skin, and really lets your natural skin show through and breathe. It also has properties more focused on North American values and desires in makeup/skincare like anti-aging benefits (although I’m not quite sure what they are exactly as it doesn’t include an SPF) while leaving out the ‘whitening’ ingredients common to most Eastern formulas. This BB Cream claims to perform 8-in-1 actions:
- Even out skintone
- Hydration
- Anti-Aging
- Skin Regeneration
- Shine Control
- Soothes and calms skin
- Reduce appearance of imperfections
- Adds radiance
I think this product does a good job of evening out skin tone, although I do find I need a concealer to really cover any blemishes or noticeable marks. I actually don’t find it to be hydrating…maybe slightly, but not enough for someone with dry skin like myself (I make sure to apply moisturizer first). It does do a great job of leaving skin looking naturally radiant (no shimmery finishes here) and shine-free- I think I’m going to love this BB Cream for summer! It’s so light and keeps me looking fresh. Available in Light to Medium or Medium to Dark, most people will be able to find themselves falling into one of these two tones… it’s very good at adjusting and has a neutral undertone to match both cool and warm complexions.
It is quite a striking price, for being a drugstore product- however it’s important to keep in mind that with BB Creams, less is more. Using just one pump of the product is enough to cover the whole face… so at that rate, this tube will last a long time. I wish it would be easier to see how much product is left through the packaging too- I’m not a fan of the surprise of being suddenly out of a daily makeup essential!

Summary
- Price: $22.50 CDN for 1.5oz / 45mL
- Availability: Marcelle Online and various Canadian Drugstores
- Overall: A good North American spin on the BB Cream, especially for hot summer months because it feels so light, looks so fresh and keeps shine at bay. A tad pricey, but a little goes a long way. Dry skin ladies, don’t skimp on your moisturizer beforehand either!
