It’s about time the drugstore beauty world had a great selection of flattering nude lipsticks. The new Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs Lipsticks ($7.49 USD / $9.99 CAD) are available now in 8 nude shades designed for every skin tone. The Color Sensational formula is one of the best drugstore lipsticks I’ve ever tried, so you can imagine how excited I was to get my hands on this collection. Those that know me know I’m a self-proclaimed nude lipstick addict, and I’m thrilled to finally see some flattering pale nudes.
The shades include
- Bare All: Pale nude beige
- Blushing Beige: Light warm nude
- Nude Lust: Light beige
- Maple Kiss: Light caramel
- Truffle Tease: Mid-tone brown nude
- Stormy Sahara: Terracotta nude
- Untained Spice: Red-ish brown
- Espresso Exposed: Brick berry
Even though Bare All is extremely pale- even a little too pale for my light skin tone- I’m so happy to see it in the collection. It really creates an incredible range of options for every skin tone. Blushing Beige is definitely my favorite shade out of them all. It’s perfect for my skin tone and has just the right undertone as well. Nude Lust is quite similar to Blushing Beige, but just a little deeper.
The other shades in the collection were all beautiful as well, however I didn’t find them to suit my skin tone as much. I did actually like Espresso Exposed a lot (which I didn’t think I would when I first saw it). Of course, I wouldn’t really consider it to be a ‘nude’ lipstick for me, but it’s beautiful none-the-less. I think everyone will be able to find at least a few shades that work for them in this collection, which is really awesome.
The formula is just as great as usual- the lipsticks offer medium-buildable coverage that makes it easy to wear the color as sheer or as dark as you want (wearing them lightly is definitely appreciated when it comes to nude lipsticks). They glide on beautifully and don’t dry out my lips at all. They have a slight, pleasant scent and overall are packaged nicely. I’ve been a huge fan of the formula for a long time, and especially since the Vivids collection was launched a little while ago. Maybelline really thought about the undertones well, with the palest shade a little on the cool side and the deeper shades leaning more towards the warm side, for the most flattering finish.
I really hope Maybelline continues to release fun, unique collections like these. It’s refreshing to see in the mass market industry, and their affordable price point keeps my wallet happy too. Well done (once again), Maybelline.
