Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr Eyeshadow in Bad To The Bronze

Maybelline has totally upped their game since I was in high school- I always loved the brand, but it really started standing out to me when I was at New York Fashion Week last September, and everywhere you looked it was Maybelline (they were a huge sponsor, so its expected)… with the launch of their new Maybelline Color Tattoo 24Hr Eyeshadows (I paid $5.99 CDN on sale), they have totally made headlines and proved that they truly are much more than just a ‘drugstore’ brand.

The Packaging

The cream eyeshadows look almost identical to Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liners (which I am completely obsessed with, FYI)…the only difference really is that the glass bottom is a bit smaller. That’s it.  They have a slight resemblance to MAC Paint Pots as well, but I honestly find the formula to be much more comparable to Benefit’s cream eyeshadows.  The pot is a thick glass bottom jar with a twist off lid- make sure to keep this lid nice and tight so they don’t dry out!

The Product

Like with any cream eyeshadow, you’ll know right away if its a loser- it will crease within a few minutes.  If its a true winner, you’ve got to go from morning to night, which is exactly what I did.  This beautiful bronze shade is stunning- it has enough metallic reflection to brighten the eyes so they don’t look too flat, but still with enough tone to really give you the color you want. It’s super pigmented and creamy as well- it applies like a dream (I used a duo fiber eyeshadow brush, but fingers work perfectly fine too). I wore it from lash line to brow bone, to make sure if there was any creasing anywhere, I’d find it. Result? None. Absolutely none.  From 9am until 2am, it looks flawless (I didn’t test it out for 24 hours…because after 17 hours of flawless wear i’m pretty sure it’ll be okay).  On top of that, I was super sick with runny, itchy eyes all day and it still didn’t budge. Bravo Maybelline, bravo.

Of course with the incredible wear of the formula, it’s not the easiest to take off. I recommend using a waterproof makeup remover (like a bi-phasic one or micellar cleansing water) and then go on to your regular facial cleanser.  The second thing is that I’m not too impressed with the entire shade range.  Many of the colours are quite bold and deep, and while thats good for those crazy out-there looks, cream shadows are perfect for a quick wash of color on a busy day and I would have loved to see more light neutral shades….champagne, pale pink, maybe even a matte nude beige!  Let’s see some more colours Maybelline!

Summary

  • Price: Anywhere from $5-12 (sale or regular price, depending on location)
  • Availability: Drugstores, Wal-Mart, anywhere that sells Maybelline cosmetics.
  • Overall: A truly phenomenal drugstore product; creamy, long-wearing, crease-proof and gorgeously pigmented/textured. I wish the line had more colours, especially wearable ones.
  • Rating: A
