Maybelline Color Tattoo Metallics Review, Photos & Swatches

Remember when Maybelline first launched their Color Tattoo cream eyeshadows? I was in awe. This Spring, Maybelline is helping us play with the hot, metallic trend for the season with their new line-up of Metallic textures. The Maybelline Color Tattoo Metallics ($6.99 USD / $8.99 CAD) come in five, striking metallic shades and offer 24-hour wear.

These eyeshadows come in the same pots as those in the regular line; they resemble the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows a lot (which I also love, but are much more expensive). The glass jar has a twist-off lid… but make sure to keep it on tight to prevent them from drying out.

The shades I have are…

• Gold Rush: Yellow gold
• Silver Strike: Metallic silver
• Inked In Pink: Pink-y copper

All of these shades are obviously quite shimmery, as they are metallics. I found the pigmentation, at least of these three shades, to actually be a little disappointing in comparison to the original line. Bad To The Bronze, one of my favorite shades from when they first launched, is super opaque… these seemed a little sheer in comparison! Especially Gold Rush and Silver Strike- they seemed to have a little more chunky sparkle instead of overall frost.  Inked In Pink was the most pigmented, but even that wasn’t as impressive as the original line.

While they may have been a little disappointing in the pigmentation department, they still excelled in longevity and crease-proof wear. These babies stay put! If you don’t mind a little more of a sheer finish, these shades would look great as a wash all over the lid. If you’re looking for a full-coverage, liquid metal finish, you’ll have to look elsewhere!
