One of the most talked-about releases from Milani this season have been their new Milani Haute Flash Full Coverage Shimmer Lipglosses ($7.49 USD each). I knew that I had to get my hands on them from the reviews and swatches that I have seen and let me say this- if the Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters revolutionized the “drugstore lipstick”, then these pretty girls do the same for the “drugstore lipgloss”. Let me show you!
Each lipgloss comes in a long, sleek tube that reminds me of the MAC Kissable Lipcolor packaging- it’s not as practical, but for some reason I really love it more (it just looks so chic)! Each tube is transparent to reveal the same of lipgloss within, and the long-stemmed doe foot applicators are flattened a bit (this seems to be a trend in lipgloss applicators this season, almost a “spatula” type shape). Overall, you do loose a bit of precision with the long handle, but its really not that bad because the applicator tip makes for a really nice, defined application.
The lipgloss itself is meant to be a full coverage, super shimmery gloss with a reflective shine and totally glam look. Some of the glosses are much more pigmented than others, but they are all very nice in their own right. They smell slightly like vanilla (quite a bit the same as a MAC Lipglass actually) and they feel super smooth and slick, not sticky at all. Overall the formula is fantastic and very comfortable on my lips, even though a few of them feel a little more ‘gritty’ than others, but it’s not something that really bothers me (I love the super glam look). They last a decent amount of time on the lips, but like most non-sticky glosses, they don’t stand up to eating or drinking that well. Vampy Varnish also compared them to the MAC Dare To Wear Lipglasses (check it out here) and they were almost exact dupes! My only issue is that I have to be extremely careful when applying some of them, because they are SO pigmented, they are almost like a liquid lipstick and any tiny mistakes will really show along the lip line… let’s take a look at each shade individually.
The brightest and boldest shade out of them all. This one is super metallic, but I find has the least amount of dimensional shimmer (it’s still shimmery, but its all pretty much the same color). It gives a bright, bold pop of hot pink color and looks great paired with simple black eyeliner! One of my favourites. The pigmentation is excellent and the shade is perfect for Spring!
In A Flash
The deepest, vampy shade out of the collection. This deep purple wine shade is packed with red, purple and blue glitter giving it a super reflective shine. This one feels the most gritty to me, and its a really dramatic shade (gorgeous though)!
This violet pink shade appears more frosty and metallic then shimmery to me. It has a very strong silver reflect to it, almost giving it a retro feel. I still really love it because I’ve always been a fan of frosty lips. It definitely doesn’t pack the same pigment punch as the other shades though, which makes it a little easier to apply.
My new favorite red lipgloss! This is the perfect cherry red shade that brightens my smile instead of making it look dull or yellow (a problem I find with a lot of red lip glosses). Plus it is super pigmented, so it looks like a lipstick and gloss in one! I’m a huge fan of this gloss!
The sheerest gloss of them all- this baby nude pink gloss is packed with silvery flecks of shimmer and adds just a hint of color to the lips. It’s easy to apply since there isn’t much color, but it still gives a glittery, glam finish to the lips.
- Price: $7.49 USD for 0.18oz / 5g
- Availability: Milani Cosmetics and various drugstores
- Selection: Available in various shades
- Overall: I’m already a huge fan of these lip glosses! They go on smooth, not sticky and last a good amount of time. The more pigmented ones are a bit more difficult to apply, but overall they are a fantastic drugstore lipgloss!
