NARS Cinematic Lipsticks for Holiday 2013 Review

NARS Cinematic Lipsticks

The NARS x Guy Bourdin Collection for Holiday 2013 includes five NARS Cinematic Lipsticks ($26 USD / $30 CAD), a brand new formula exclusive for this collection. This limited-edition collection is available now at NARS (coming to Sephora on November 1st). See the rest of the collection here.

The shades include:

  • Future Red: Cherry red
  • Short Circuit: Fire coral
  • Full Frontal: Rose violet
  • Last Tango: Dusty rose
  • Goodbye Emmanuelle: Hot pink

While the packaging looks identical to the original NARS Lipstick, the formula is a little different. These lipsticks have beautiful, full-coverage color with a light-as-air feel. They are hydrating, silky and glide on like butter. They each have a glossy finish to them and these lipsticks are the most true-to-color that I’ve seen! The final effect on the lips is so close to the tube, it’s very impressive.

They also wear for several hours and feel comfortable the entire time. I have my fingers crossed, hoping that NARS re-launches this formula in the near future (preferably in the permanent line with tons of shades, thanks NARS). It’s one of the most luxurious formulas I’ve ever used, and I was impressed by every single shade.

Future Red was a deep, cherry red that is classic, timeless and perfect for the holiday season. Short Circuit is described as coral, but it really comes off as more of an orange. Full Frontal was one of my favourites, with a beautiful violet tone. Last Tango was a warm, mid-tone nude that would look incredible on medium to deep skin tones, and Goodbye Emmanuelle was the most perfect “Barbie Pink” i’ve ever found. Whichever shade you choose, you’re going to love it.

The only thing that I found a bit difficult was the application of the deep, bold shades like Future Red– you’re definitely going to want to use a lip liner (psst, NARS- how about a Cinematic Lip Pencil too?) so the edges are sharp and precise- this formula is a little too creamy to sculpt sharp lines.

Good job, NARS. Seriously.
