The NARS Fall 2013 Collection includes two NARS Pure Matte Lipsticks ($26 USD / $32 CAD). This limited-edition collection features an array of smouldering hues and matte textures for an ultra sophisticated and modern look. Available online and on counters July 15, 2013.
The two shades in this collection include La Paz, a purple orchid shade with silver sparkle, and Peloponnese, a peachy bronze with gold sparkle. Both of the shades are joining the permanent line-up. They come in the standard black NARS packaging in an ultra slim tube with a slant-tip bullet. They don’t have any scent… but these aren’t your typical matte lipsticks- they’re packed with glitter!
I can’t decide if I like these or not. First of all, I do find them to be quite drying, and I don’t like that to begin with. I know matte lipsticks tend to be drying, but these were definitely more drying than other mattes I’ve tried. I also don’t like that they feel a little gritty on the lips, despite the ultra-fine sparkle. Lastly, the color goes on a little bit patchy- especially with La Paz. What I do like is the actual look of the lipstick on the lips. I love playing with textures, and a matte lip with sparkle isn’t really matte at all… so it’s a unique and interesting take on the look.
The pigmentation is pretty good and the do last about 5 to 6 hours on the lips, so if you’re used to matte lipsticks, you probably won’t mind the feel of them. I think I like the way they look, just not on me. If I wanted a frosted lip (which is kind of what these lipsticks end up looking like), I’d go for one that’s a little more hydrating.
