The NARS Spring 2013 Collection includes the NARS Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil ($24 USD / $30 CAD) in Cythère, a metallic, bronzy rose lip gloss pencil. The collection is full of vibrant hues, reminiscent of the 90′s, that creates a fun, graphic statement for the season. Available now at Sephora!
I love the ease and convenience of lip gloss pencils- my love affair first started with the awesome Urban Decay Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Pencils, and moved on from there. I was excited to try out this rose beige gloss pencil in the NARS Spring 2013 Collection, because it looked like a soft, neutral shade that was totally up my alley (up until now, most gloss pencils are usually really vibrant and colourful shades).
The sleek, matte black chubby pencil has a band around the bottom to show the color, and has a nice, sturdy cap that holds well so I don’t have to worry about it falling off. The pencil looks like a NYX Jumbo Pencil or Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadow. There’s no noticeable scent of the product itself.
What I loved about this product so much was the intense pigmentation. It goes on with opaque color; and because it’s in pencil form, it’s so easy to apply! The product is quite thick and a bit tacky when on the lips, so if you’re not a fan of that feeling then you might want to stay away from this pencil. Otherwise, it’s going to give you brilliant shine, high-coverage color and an intense, metallic finish. I think this product would look amazing on sun-kissed skin in the summer time!
For a gloss, it is quite long wearing (since it does have that thicker, tacky texture) which is a bonus, and touch-ups are simple because of its form. It is definitely a lot harder to sharpen than most other jumbo pencils, because this is a sticky gloss, it’s going to gunk up your pencil sharpener really fast. Pop it in the freezer before hand and make sure to have plenty of makeup remover to clean your sharpener as soon as you’re done.
