How-To: Nautical Nail Art Manicure

Nautical Nail Art Manicure

Summer is here and we’re feeling good! Essie’s gorgeous Summer 2016 collection is all about the thrilling sights and beautiful shades of Antigua, Guatemala (one of Essie Global Color Director, Rebecca Minkoff’s favorite destinations).

The collection is everything you want for summer—from creamy coconut white to crystalline turquoise to a surprising onyx shimmer. Every single shade is beautiful on its own or when paired up for some cute nail art like this nautical-inspired look created for us by Essie Global Lead Educator, Rita Remark. Keep scrolling to see exactly how she did it!

  • Step 1
  • Start off with a clear base coat, like essie’s First Base to ensure your manicure stays put.

Apply two coats of Coconut Cove, a gorgeous creamy white, to create the base color (I love this one all on its own for summer)!

Use a striping brush, create angled stripes along the tips of the nail with Loot The Booty, a bright sapphire blue. You can vary the number of stripes depending on the size of the nail, but Rita decided to do three stripes on each nail for this look.

This is obviously the most complex of all the steps, but the cute anchor really adds to the nautical theme if you’re feeling up to it! Rita created the design using Hiking Heels, a rich hot red.

First, use a striping tool to create a cross. Then create a half-circle at the bottom. Add arrow tips to the ends of the half-circle and use a dotting tool to create a large circle at the top of the anchor.

To create the “hole” at the top of the anchor, simply add another dot of Coconut Cove but make sure it is slightly smaller than the red dot.

Apply a glossy top coat like essie’s No Chips Ahead to seal your design in (especially after you worked this hard for it)!
