There’s something about Benefit’s signature boxed powders that makes my heart sing. My obsession began back in high school, when I would save my spare change and head over to the Benefit counter at the drugstore (these were the days before Sephora came to Canada—it’s crazy to think we ever lived without it) to buy each powder, one by one, until my collection was complete. Remember Thrrrob? Georgia? 10? I had ‘em all.
This Spring, Benefit has adding not one… not two… but three new boxed powders to their lineup (*jaw drop*). Two of the powders, Hoola Lite and Dandelion Twinkle are more like spinoffs of their OG sisters, but there’s also a brand new blush for your inner ’70s beach bum: GALifornia.
GALifornia is a golden pink blush with vintage surfer girl–inspired packaging (so adorable). The powder itself is embossed with a sunburst and shimmery gold overspray—and it smells like a sunny summer day at the beach (actually it smells like pink grapefruit and vanilla, but close enough).
It’s quite pigmented and the golden pink hue is perfect for a warm flush—this one is definitely going to be a go-to shade for summer.
Hoola Lite is a lighter take on one of the most iconic bronzers of all time. It has the same great matte texture and neutral undertone that works for both bronzing and contouring, it’s just a little more natural-looking for those with ultra-fair complexions (or if you just find the original to be a little too intense).
The formula is finely milled so the pigments blend beautifully into the skin—it’s one of the only bronzers I’d actually recommend using as a overall face powder for a natural-looking faux glow. It’s very subtle—but if that’s what you need then this bronzer will be your new BFF.
Dandelion Twinkle is the brand’s first strobing boxed powder, and they nailed it! The powder belongs to the brightening Dandelion collection. It smells just like the original pink blush, but features a light, iridescent finish.
The universally-flattering champagne pink tint leaves skin with an ethereal glow. It’s quite sheer, so it can be layered on top of any of your favourite blushes and bronzers for a boost of luminosity. One thing to note: they weren’t kidding with the “twinkle” part. The texture is quite sparkly, but in such a soft, finely-milled way I don’t actually mind the sprinkle of fairy dust on my cheekbones.
Each powder includes an interior mirror and brush as usual. The blush and highlighter both have tapered bristles for a soft, diffused application, while the bronzer has a square-edge brush, great for sculpting out those precise contours.
The three boxed powders retail for $29 each and are available now online at sephora.com.
