This summer, OPI is teaming up with Disney to launch these adorable 4-piece nail collection inspired by the vintage Minnie Mouse character. I’ve always loved Minnie Mouse (and I even have the 4-year-old photos of me meeting her at Disney World to prove it), and I think this OPI Vintage Minnie Mouse Collection (available in June) is adorable with pinks and reds that are just as timeless as she is.
I’ve always loved OPI Nail Lacquer bottles- the shape is nice (I like the fact I can see the color when looking from above) and the brushes work well. I do prefer the more flattened/wide brushes that many nail polish brands are opting for these days, but I think that OPI was just always one of the ‘nicer’ brands growing up, so it has a soft spot in my heart.
It’s refreshing to see a small collection sometimes (especially after reviewing several large ones)! I’d much rather see just 3-4 really awesome colors, than 12 that aren’t really unique or special. This collection includes four polishes, one red and three pink ones, all with varying texture. OPI nail polishes usually last a good 3-4 days without chipping (with a topcoat- I prefer Seche Vite), and even longer on top of Gelish (sometimes I can get up to a week with zero chipping, just by putting it on top of a clear gel polish coat).
I was pretty happy with this collection overall, except for the confetti topcoat. I think that a part of me knew that it just wasn’t going to be as awesome as it looked in the bottle, but the other part of me was secretly hoping it would.
The Color of Minnie
I know it sounds redundant, but this really is “the color of Minnie Mouse”. At first application, it was an “ah ha!” moment, seeing that gorgeous red hue with a slight pink undertone, it really was exactly the shade of that vintage Minnie Mouse cartoon. It also was incredibly pigmented which was fantastic. For a very thin formula, I was surprised at how much color it put down with just one coat, but as a creature of habit and perfectionist, I did two.
Nothin’ Mousie ’bout It
I got so excited when I first laid eyes on this bottle- the adorable heart confetti mixed in with pink and gold glitter was just too cute! Like I said, a part of me just knew it wasn’t going to look as fabulous on as it did in the bottle… but I still had my hopes up. Too bad, because it really doesn’t look anything like in the bottle. The color is so sheer, there’s barely any pink and you’ll be lucky it get one heart confetti on that brush! It’s difficult, then placing it on the nail is even harder. Overall it’s cute in the bottle, but not functional on the nail.
I’m All Ears
This reddish fuchsia shade with purple sparkle was also super pigmented for being so thin, I was quite impressed! This color didn’t stand out to me as unique, but it was very pretty. It was also much more reflective in real life than in the photos. Reminds me of a cherry popsicle!
If You Moust You Moust
This creamy, cool-tone pink is stunning! It reminds me a lot of my beloved MAC Viva Glam Gaga lip glass that I treasure so much! It almost has a purplish undertone, but is still very vivid. A timeless must have, yet very dupable as creamy pinks are extremely common in the nail polish world. If you don’t have one like it though, I highly recommend this one. Super pigmented and I love the high-shine finish!
- Price: $8.50 USD / $9.95 CDN for 0.5oz / 15mL
- Availability: Salons, spas and beauty retail stores (visit OPI for more info)
- Overall: A small, cute collection for red and pink lovers. These shades are timeless, just like the vintage Minnie Mouse that inspired them. Most are quite dupable, but the formula is amazing so if you don’t already have a shade of the sort then these are excellent choices (except for the confetti glitter topcoat- that one just doesn’t do the bottle justice).
- Rating: A- for the collection as a whole (shades rating individually above)
