The sun is shining a little longer and the layers are getting a little lighter- Spring is here and many of you are probably looking for ways to lighten up your makeup routine for the new season. The Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Airbrushing Pressed Powder ($13.99 USD / $19.99 CDN) shown here in shade Creamy Natural, is an ultra-fine mineral powder designed for sensitive skin. This powder makes some big-time claims, so let’s see if it lives up to them!
The Packaging
The mineral powder comes in the traditional Physician’s Formula cut-out box, revealing the compact within. The compact itself has a clear top, allowing you to see the powder beneath. The bottom of the compact lifts up to reveal the small, short-bristled travel buffing brush underneath as well as a mirror. Overall, good packaging, but the brush takes a little getting used to. Because it is so short, regular buffing motions really aren’t possible- you basically have to pave your face with this powder if you’re using this brush. With this product, I find it to work pretty well, but I fear for concealer to stay put with this type of application- I much prefer to pounce my powder on as to not disturb the makeup underneath.
The Product
This powder left me fairly confused- it claims to have impeccable coverage for a smooth, flawless finish. Smooth and flawless, yes, however the coverage was nearly non-existent for me. I would rank the coverage somewhere in the likes of a MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural (which some find is enough, but I’ve never been one of them). For me, this powder is definitely setting powder, not a powder foundation.
It does do a great job at setting my foundation though, mattifying, but not drying… hiding pores too! While it claims to have a lifting and firming effect, I can’t say I found any (I also can’t say I really need any..) but it definitely didn’t last 16 hours either. I had to touch up mid-day as usual. I do like the fact its formulated with skin-soothing ingredients to reduce breakouts, irritation and to nourish the skin!

Summary
- Price: $13.99 USD / $19.99 CDN for 0.26oz / 7.5g
- Availability: ULTA and Various Drugstores
- Selection: Available in Translucent, Beige and Creamy Natural (shown here)
- Overall: I was left a bit confused on the claims, as I found this to be more of a sheer finishing powder than one with ‘impeccable coverage’. It worked well to finish off my makeup, but didn’t hold up to its 16 hour claim. Micro-fine to really diffuse pores- that I did enjoy!
- Rating: B+
