The last addition to the pH Powered line of drugstore cosmetics is the Physicians Formula pH Matchmaker Lip Gloss ($9.95 USD / $12.79 CDN) shown here in shade Light Pink. The innovative formula claims to adjust to your unique pH to provide a color that is totally suited to you. Let’s check it out!
The Packaging
The packaging is quite adorable- I love the square lipgloss shape and transparent tube looks fancy and there’s even a mirror on the side of the tube which is totally handy. As with the other products in the pH Matchmaker line, there are LED lights in the cap (with the press of the button on the top). This is pretty nice for touch-ups in a dim area or car… it’s just enough to see where you’re putting it (and its not shining right in your eyes like with the power compacts)! Bonus- it doubles as a key-finder in a deep, dark purse!
The applicator is a small brush tip- much smaller than I’m used to seeing on a lipgloss. I actually really like it because even though it takes a bit longer to apply to the lips, it allows you to be much more precise (always a bonus in my opinion)!
The Product
The gloss itself is a gorgeous shimmery pink. It goes on nearly clear, but after about a minute it develops into a beautiful hot pink shade that I totally love. Not sure if its just a “time-release” color technology, or if it really is adjusting to my pH (as you know, I’m quite skeptical without seeing the science behind it)… but either way, it definitely looks more vibrant after waiting a minute or two.
The formula is smooth and slick, not sticky at all. The thing I like most about this gloss is how it almost acts as a stain as well… the color lingers on my lips after the gloss has gone and lasts for hours! Now, they claim it lasts 10 hours… and maybe the color might but the gloss definitely doesn’t. Lipglosses are a trade-up between being long-lasting or non-sticky… and this gloss is no different. The shine wore off within about an hour or two… but like I said, the color lingered.
The price is a little hard for me to wrap my head around, as it is quite high for a drugstore product (and nearly the price of a MAC lipgloss)… but I do think its a really pretty shade and quite pigmented at that (once you let the color develop). I’m definitely loving this one the most out of the pH Matchmaker line!
