Q&A: Which Self Tanner Is The Best?

Which Self Tanner Is The Best?

I am the most critical person in the world when it comes to self tanners. I have very olive undertones in my skin, so even some self tanners that have been praised by many, look orange on me.  I don’t care how it smells or feels, I just want the most natural looking color possible or else it’s not worth it.  In my many years of testing them out, I’ve come to realize that the golden award goes to St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse ($30 USD / $31.50 CDN), with Bare Escentuals Faux Tan ($22 USD) coming in close second. These two give amazing looking color! My tip? Apply it with a big flat-top synthetic brush to keep your palms orange-free and buff in the product with ease.

What’s your winner?

I want to try both of these so bad! I’m definitely a “fake” tan person, but I usually get a spray tan. However, I would like something a little more convenient.

I’ve never been a fan of self tanners cause they are too difficult for me but since I am getting soo pale this winter I might have to!

i’m not a self tanner fan myself. i’m pretty fair, so anything like self tanners, bronzers or similar stuff just don’t work for me. they’re always super noticeable, not natural at all. even with bronzers, it’s super hard to find the right one for me, with absolutely no orange undertones. the best one i’ve found so far is two faced’s pink leopard c’ause, strange as it seems, it’s a pink based bronzer. it is shimmery, so it isn’t 100% natural, but works amazing for contouring without looking orangy. i’ve heard a lot about hoola as well, but haven’t had the chance to try it out so far

I’m not a self tanner person at all. The smell, the streaking, the colour.. All of it.. However, I’ve always been interested in St. Tropez, as I hear great things about it. I’m extremely pale, so I’m a bit timid of it. Maybe I’ll see if I can find a travel size somewhere, to try it out.

I don’t use self tanner, I don’t like so much their effect: I prefer “sun” tanner :)

The tip regarding the use of a big flat-top synthetic brush is fantastic!!! I’d have never thought of it. Thanks a lot! I rarely use self tanners, mostly drustores type… none is great. Waist of money and time. The St. Tropez mousse must be a good product…

Wow O: I’ve always found that because I’m olive-toned its easier to wear orangey bronzers =)

I only had bad experiences with self-tanning products, I used a L’oreal one and one from an Italian company called Bottega Verde. I also tried one from Bilboa, but the results were always awful.

Love bare escentuals. Plus they often have deals on QVC to get a really good deal on it including the brush.
