First up—the easiest way to shape your nails. I’ve been doing this for years—I can’t remember who told me to do it, but I’ve been shaping my nails this way every since I can remember. It wasn’t until recently that I began to change my nail shape (officially going from squoval to almond, people) that I thought it would be good tip to share.
Leave your nail polish on until after you’ve shaped your nails. Smile lines can be deceiving and it’s hard NOT to follow them as you file your nails. If you leave your nail polish on before filing, you’ll have a much better idea of the final shape of your nail, despite what the free edge may look like underneath. Another tip: Look at your nails with your hand facing away from your face (like you’re about to give someone a high-five)—this will allow you to see the true shape. After you’re happy with the shape, remove the polish and continue with your mani.
