This Spring, Rimmel is going matte with their new line of Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipsticks ($5.49 USD / $7.99 CAD); a collection of 10 matte lip colors in a range of pink, red and even nude tones. The line-up is a great complement to their original Lasting Finish range.
The lipsticks feature a plastic, red tube (that is a lot lighter than it looks) with the Rimmel crown logo on the cap and Kate Moss’ black signature on the cap. They have a slightly fruity scent and each have medium to full coverage color.
The shades I have are…
- 101: Pale pink
- 102: Mid-tone pink
- 103: Mid-tone rose
- 104: Deep rose with violet undertones
- 105: Mid-tone neutral bronze
- 109: Bright orange
- 111: Scarlet red
- 113: Nude beige
These lipsticks all glide on the lips and feel quite weightless, however I did find that the lighter shades (such as 113, 101 and 102 in particular) really made my lips look dry and flakey, while the deeper shades like 109 and 111 looked a lot more smooth and even.
The color was really nice and quite matte, but the slight sheen can be removed with a simple blot on a tissue. I feel like the lipstick didn’t really set on my lips- it felt like it just sat on top of my lips for the first little while and that was quite uncomfortable for me. After about an hour or so, they felt a little better… but starting to get a little dry.
While they aren’t the best matte formula I’ve found, they certainly aren’t the worst- and I’m also very impressed with the range of shades. In particular, shade 113 is a super pale nude, something we don’t see very often in drugstore lip colors. For those who love nude lips, you may want to check this one out (but really only for those who are quite fair, because it is a very light shade).
They are also quite affordable too- so if you want to add a few matte shades to your collection without breaking the bank, check them out.
