After my friend Stacey styled my hair for IMATS using a flat iron to make gorgeous curls and waves, I knew that flat irons were the only way to go if I wanted it to last more than 2 hours. My curls stayed all day (like she said they would…I was skeptical), and so began my love for flat irons for curling! My latest tool- the Sedu Revolution 1″ Tourmaline Ionic Styling Iron ($159.99 USD)!
The Packaging
The flat iron comes in a nice sleek box, nestled perfectly inside. I love the sleek look of the flat iron (it also comes in pink) and the simplicity of its design.
The Flat Iron
The iron itself is a fantastic tool. I’ve used this flat iron in the past and really loved it… the plates heat up super fast to 450F (aka. really super hot) which allows you to create styles that really will last longer, just please use a protectant spray! The plates are rounded at the edges, which allow the hair to glide over them nicely- this is super important for making curls so that you don’t get kinks in your locks as you’re pulling it through.
It claims to have an ‘anti-slip edge’ which keeps the hair in the flat iron and doesn’t let it “spill over” the top… I don’t find that really works. I’ve tried with a little hair and a lot of hair and in all circumstances the best way to prevent hair from falling off the plates is just to pay attention and be careful.
While it does take a little more effort and time then using traditional hot rollers (which I was always a fan of because they are so easy to use), the results last a LOT longer. and you can really control how tight or loose the curls are- and of course, you can use it to straighten hair (but I’m probably not the best person in the world to review it for that reason….my hair is poker straight)!
The Results
Here’s what my hair looked like after I used the Sedu Revolution flat iron to style my hair. It took me about 20 minutes to do my whole head. I like using a head protectant spray first, combing it through, using the flat iron then spraying the individual sections with my favorite L’Oreal Elnett hairspray after each one is finished. I shake it out a bit and tousle with my fingers to loosen them up a bit, and voila!
Summary
- Price: $159.99 USD
- Availability: Folica
- Overall: A great tool for long lasting curls and waves- the iron heats up quickly, can reach super high temperatures and has a great curved edge for easy curling. A little pricey, but a strong competitor for some of the other major (and more expensive) flat irons out there.
