The Sephora Disney Ariel Collection for Fall 2013 includes the Sephora Mermaid Song Lipgloss Set ($46 CAD), a set of four lip glosses in fun, flirty shades. This limited-edition collection experiences the magical story of Princess Ariel from The Little Mermaid and captures the ethereal, vibrant colors depicted in the treasured film. The collection will be available from Sephora online this month and in store August 2013.
Each of the Sephora Disney Ariel Collection items come with a quote inspired by the spirit of Ariel herself- the one for this lipgloss set is “Find Your Voice”.
The shades include…
- Dream Girl: Perky pink
- Sea Witch: Bold berry
- Redhead: Rich red
- Mermaid: Courageous coral
The glosses come in squeeze-tube form with gorgeous detailing on each gloss. Sephora claims that these lipglosses are pigmented, but I have to disagree a bit. The two lighter shades, Dream Girl and Mermaid, are so sheer they barely show up on the lips at all. The do give a slight hint of color to the lips, but I would still categorize them as sheer glosses. On the other hand, Sea Witch and Redhead are both a little more pigmented (I’d consider them to be medium coverage lipglosses, as color shows up but there is still translucence to them).
I have to say that I’m not the biggest fan of these glosses. They look pretty in the tubes, but not only do they smell a bit plastic-y, they either barely show up (the sheer shades) or they are insanely difficult to apply (the dark shades). I have enough trouble neatly lining my lips with a solid lipstick… trying that with a super slick, smooth gloss makes it so much harder. They apply quite patchy (especially Sea Witch) and they slip and slide all over the lips. Any lipgloss that takes me more than 30 seconds to apply is just too difficult to work with- and these took way longer than that.
If I’m going to go for a rich, pigmented color… I’m going to go for something that will stay put. These glosses are slick and not sticky at all- which feels great, but makes applying dark colors a huge pain. Dream Girl is probably my favorite out of them all, and I just can’t see myself ever reaching for the other shades… so I can’t say I recommend this set. Save your money and splurge on one of the high quality pieces in the collection like the Storylook palette or the Mirror.

While these glosses look beautiful and the colors are fantastic, they really disappointed me. They felt lovely and comfortable on the lips, but they were either too sheer to even show up, or they were too pigmented to apply evenly. They could work, but it just took too much effort for a lipgloss. Not a fan!
