shu uemura Spring 2013 Lipsticks

The shu uemura Blossom Dream Collection for Spring 2013 includes two shu uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipsticks ($30 USD / $35 CAD) and two shu uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte Lipsticks ($30 USD / $36 CAD).  I have one of each formula to show you here.  The colorful array for pastel floral shades and varying textures of this collection was inspired by budding flowers and features a modern interpretation of the legendary “unmask” logo to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the brand. The collection is available now at shu uemura retailers.

The lipsticks are fairly similar in packaging- the only difference is that the finish of the tube reflects the formula (the matte lipsticks have a matte, brushed tube while the original lipsticks have a shiny, silver tube).  Each lipstick comes with a clear cap that reveals the lipstick shade within.

The two shades I have are Bright Pink (Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte) and Bright Orange (Rouge Unlimited).  Both lipsticks have a very velvety, smooth texture and glide on beautifully.  The matte formula isn’t one of my favourites- I find it quite drying and it really enhances dryness on my lips and looks patchy. I just find it makes them look dry, even when they are not. It’s a very matte formula, and the bright pepto-pink shade makes it even worse.  However, if you’re a fan of ultra matte lips, you’ll probably love this one because it does feel quite lightweight.

On the other hand, the original Rouge Unlimited lipstick formula is one of my absolute favorites. It feels so smooth and hydrating and it has the most gorgeous glossy sheen! The bright orange color is quite shocking, but just dabbing it on the lips can really tone it down. Both lipsticks have a medium, buildable coverage and the matte formula does last a lot longer, but both do last a few hours at least.

These colors are definitely bright and bold- I think they could be a lot of fun for Spring!
