shu uemura Spring 2014 Press Event with Kakuyasu Uchiide

shu uemura Spring 2014 Press Event with Kakuyasu Uchiide

I had the pleasure of attending a press event for the upcoming shu uemura Spring 2014 launches, including the Mika Ninagawa for shu uemura Collection as well as the new calligraph:ink Collection. Not only was I able to play with the beautiful products, but I had the honour of meeting Kakuyasu Uchiide , the International Artistic Director for shu uemura, and one of my personal favorite makeup muses. His work graces the beauty visuals of each shu uemura collection, and he has done an incredible job of continuing Mr. Uemura’s vision with the brand. His technique is impeccable (he created the a perfect cat-eye in about 3 strokes, starting from the outer corner… what!?) and his artistic vision never ceases to amaze me. He truly puts the ‘art’ in makeup artistry, so seeing his work up close in person was the best way I could have spent my afternoon.

The new color collection (available April 2014) was inspired four beauty wonderlands captured by Mika Ninagawa, and Mr. Uchiide created a beauty look for each one. He also demonstrated how to use the new calligraph:ink liquid eye liner, shu uemura x PAPERSELF paper lashes and tint in gelato lip & cheek colors on a model as well. It was an absolute pleasure to watch Mr. Uchiide work, and the looks he created are nothing short of inspiring. Take a closer look below to see how he created each one.

calligraph:inkThis look combines sharp, graphic liquid eyeliner, dramatic paper lashes and a bold red lip for a completely modern take on a classic look.

Mr. Uchiide first applied the new calligraph:ink liquid eye liner to the upper eyelid in a cat-eye shape, then glued love forever paper lashes to the lashline. He finished off the look with tint in gelato in AT01.
