The Shu Uemura x Karl Lagerfeld Collection for Holiday 2012 includes one Shu Uemura Painting Liner ($25 USD / $29 CAD), in Blackish Satin Purple, a deep shimmery eggplant shade. This collection features color selection and package design created entirely by Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director for the legendary fashion house of Chanel. The collection is available for purchase this month online, and in stores November 2012.
This gel liner features a Mon Shu on the cap, and is a similar size to most other typical gel liners. I find the name quite funny… almost like a ‘real’ name couldn’t be chosen, so the name just ended up being the description! Either way, its a gorgeous gel liner!
The formula is incredibly creamy and easy to work with- especially for creating artistic effects and designs (you have quite a bit of play time), yet it sets to a waterproof, budgeproof finish. It creates beautiful lines without flaking, so I really do think the “painting liner” is an appropriate name. The formula reminds my of my beloved Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Liner, but with even more pigment for a shade like this (I find Bobbi’s colors aren’t always that pigmented).
This shade is a deep purple with micro gold shimmer. It looks stunning as an eyeliner (especially for brown and hazel eyes- score!) but I also really like using it as a base all over the lid for an intense finish. Make sure to keep the lid closed tightly because gel liners are very prone to drying out.
I must say, I wish that this liner would have been black. One of the key features of the Mon Shu girl, is her deep, black lined rims! I think it would have just been more fitting with the collection to have a black liner… but this shade is stunning, none-the-less.

- Overall: I’m loving this long-wearing formula! It’s so silky and pigmented, it really does give the “painting liner” a true meaning. It stays creamy while creating intricate designs, but once it sets it stays on all day. The shade is beautiful, but I wish it was black (to follow along with the Mon Shu girl look)!
