Tarte must be one of the last brands to hop on the BB bandwagon- but at least it was worth the wait! The new Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer SPF 30 ($34 USD / $41 CAD) comes in four shades and can be used alone or as a primer for foundation. The oil-free, anti-aging formula also contains a chemical-free SPF 30 to help protect skin from the sun’s harmful rays, all while smoothing out the skin tone and texture for an even, silky finish.
This BB cream isn’t really a cream at all; as the name suggests, it is more of a primer. I guess the “BB” title comes from the fact it’s an all-in-one makeup and skincare product that primes, perfects and protects skin. It comes in a cute white with a wooden cap and a squeeze tube applicator tip. The product itself feels quite similar to pore-refining balms like Benefit The Porefessional, however it does offer some pretty serious coverage for something that’s so lightweight.
It comes in four shades (although I feel like each shade can stretch a variety of skin tone); Fair, Light, Medium and Tan. Tarte claims that the product works its magic for 12 hours… however I’m not entirely sure that’s true (especially if you’re using it for SPF protection). The coverage is quite buildable and it definitely does smooth out pores and cover imperfections (maybe not major ones, but overall it provided the same coverage as a light-to-medium foundation would). I like the velvet-y feel, however I would recommend using a moisturizer prior to this product if you have dry skin like me; it really enhances dry patches if you don’t.
I was quite surprised with how much more bright and healthy my skin looked with just a bit of this BB treatment on (maybe it’s the diamond dust in the formula that does the brightening)! While the Bobbi Brown BB Cream is still my favorite North American BB Cream, this one takes a close second- and I think I might just prefer this one in the summer because it does feel so lightweight on the skin.
Good job, Tarte!
