This Or That: BB Cream or Liquid Foundation?

I’ve tried both Asian BB Creams and American BB Creams and even though I’m a huge fan of multi-tasking products, I just feel like I haven’t found one that I prefer over foundation. Perhaps I just like a little extra coverage and a flawless finish- but I’m still sticking with liquid foundation. I know there’s tons of amazing new BB creams coming out on the market, so maybe that will change soon!

What about you…which do you prefer?

I’ve never tried a BB cream, but I think I’d prefer it to a simple liquid foundation since I’m so lazy that I tend to skip my skincare routine lol

I have a HUGE obsession with BBcreams and whenever I want added coverage I add a liitle bit of my liquid foundation in there. I usually mix Skin79′s pink or gold label(i switch them daily) with my Revlon colorstay. The finish is a lot dewier than that of regular liquid foundation which is amazing for my dry skin.

      Hey Meaghan,
After posting my original comment below I went back through and re-read the other comments. The gold or pink version of Skin 79 is the BB cream I’ve been looking at so I thought I would ask if you prefer one over the other (pink or gold) or the differences in them? I tried reading the descriptions on their website and I cannot see what the differences are.
I did notice that you mentioned you have dry skin, so now I’m wondering if my oily face should not even try it. Hmmm….
      :)

They say the Gold label is really meant for more mature and dry skin and that the pink label was catered to normal younger skin.. But they came out with orange recently and that’s for oily acne prone skin.. I really like them both there is little to no difference sometimes if my skin is extra parched I’ll reach for the gold label but really it doesn’t make a difference at all. They’re great BB creams. I have translucent skin with a bluish undertone. So the barely ashy color matches me perfectly. Both are great for covering redness and leave a nice feel on my skin. I’ve never had a break out with them either and I did with some other BB cream brands like Lioele and Missha. I would say try the Orange label they just introduced I wanted to try it but they say it has a slightly drying effect which I obviously don’t need. Goodluck!

Meaghan, this is a response from Angie because she couldn’t submit the reply because of an ad in the sidebar, so I thought I’d add it on her behalf:

“Oh thank you so much Meaghan! I will definintely check out the orange one first because I’ve noteiced that even using a tinted moisturizer causes my skin to get super shiny, and I know that although these aren’t necessarily just like a tinted moisturizer, my skin doesn’t really need any dewiness added to it.
I really appreciate your helpful insight!

I would like to use a BB Cream but haven’t found one with a high enough SPF for me to botther with it (30+).

I have been hearing about BB creams so much that I really do want to try one. I’ve heard about Skin 79′s version and am very intrigued by it. I think I will be cautious and do a lot of research before purchasing though because my skin is oily, and I want to make sure I can find one that will work with my skin type! Over the past year I have really been into wearing a medium coverage foundation, so now I wonder if I would even like a BB cream!?

    • http://www.beautezine.com Jessica

I find the Skin79 one much more thick and emollient. This Marcelle one is much more light, almost like a tinted moisturizer, however the coverage is still pretty good and its a little bit more oil-controlling!

Ok, thank you so much! Most reviews I hear only say: “I love this” which isn’t very helpful! :) I appreciate your response. :)

I’ve tried several different bb cream as well n just like u, i still prefer liquid foundation for my everyday make up. I just use bb cream when i’m off and have 2 run errands for couple of hours

  • Iris

It depends how my skin looks and how much coverage I need, if my skin is clear I usually wear a bb cream (I have the garnier one, it’s pretty good!)

  • http://www.youtube.com/alydollmakeup Alyssa

It depends… BB Creams would be great on lazy days where you don’t want to do your makeup, but you want to look presentable. But I love foundation…

  • meaghan

Thank you Jessica, and you’re very welcome Angie! I’m glad to help out! It actually isn’t letting me reply for the same reasons I thought you should know. :3

Ugh I know, its just in a specific spot on the website where the threading just isn’t working. I’ll see if I can figure out how to make the comment box appear on top!

I have tried only 2 bb creams, the skin food aloe vera and the garnier one, and so far both of them doesn’t suit my oily skin, within one hour my face was shining like a grease ball, it is not pretty. But if I need something that is light and has a little bit of coverage and I know I won’t be outside the whole day then I’ll slap some bb cream on. But if I know I’m going to be out the whole day I would definitely wear liquid foundation. So yeah,I much prefer my revlon colorstay which is fabulous!

  • maryann

I think it just depends on what you want. The two have two different purposes. One is more of a tinted moisturizer which promises to improve your skin, the other is for coverage.

I have never tried a BB cream, but I’ve heard good things about Estee Lauder’s, so I’ve ordered that and should be receiving it within a couple of days! Have you noticed any difference between the Asian BB creams and the Western ones you’ve tried?

    • Amy

Ha. The western ones almost always suck compared to the Asian ones. It always offer less coverage and doesn’t adjust well and overall performance is more like a tinted moisturizer than an actual BB cream

  • Amy

Definitely BB cream even though I can’t find a light enough color for both. I love the fact that it is a multi-tasking product and some yields a healthy dewy finish like the Asian (especially Korean) actresses sport. I don’t mind the lesser converge since I barely need any at all.

I’ve never tried a BB Cream, but I feel like I would much prefer them to foundation! I’ve just been trying to use up all my foundations! :)

I haven’t tried any BB creams (which is weird considering I come from Asia. But I didn’t get into makeup till I came to Europe so that’s probably why), so I’d say I prefer foundation at the moment. However, I like lightweight foundations with light coverage, so I might like BB creams. Will have to get a couple when I go home in summer!

I’ve never tried BB Cream, but I’d like to do that.

I’d stay with my liquid foundation, my problem with BB cream is that it doesn’t come in enough shades and I am afraid that I would get the wrong color. I tried a couple of BB cream, the color is always off and it’s way more heavier than my liquid foundation.
