This Or That: Cream or Powder Eyeshadow?

This Or That: Cream or Powder Eyeshadow?

Cream eyeshadows can be very hit-or-miss… there are a lot of amazing, crease-proof and vibrant formulas out there that look spectacular… however there are also lots of duds that will leave you with greasy, creased eyelids in minutes. When I find a good one that I love, I usually stock up on a few colors (like the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liners and the new Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadows). I still do find myself reaching for powder eyeshadow on a daily basis though! Unfortunately, I don’t really have a reason… perhaps its because I just reach for palettes, but also maybe because they are a bit more forgiving and blendable (I usually apply eyeshadow with my fingers just for daytime).

What about you…which do you prefer? If you have an idea for the next This Or That, let us know! We’d love to feature (and answer) your question!

Powder. To be honest I haven’t tried anything but pressed eyeshadows. I just got so used to it and I haven’t ventured out at all!

I definitely prefer powder because I find creams to be too sheer and layering leads to creasing.

Powder unless the cream shadow is really long wearing base product.

I dont like when cream shadows crease throughout the day. It just looks messy. Powder shadows go on so smooth and are buildable so my go to’s are always powder.

Powder, but I do like using cream eyeshadows as a base.

I prefer powder eyeshadows too, and maybe it’s because I feel my lid lighter when I wear them all day while I don’t like the feeling of cream eye shadows on my lid at the end of the day.. I hope it makes sense.

Powder. I only ever use creams as a base and even then it’s not often I’ll use them for that.

I love both! If ever, i only use creams on hot days and lazy days because i don’t want my face falling off. I layer powder on top. But i am obsessed with both!

I use either. When on a rush I actually apply cream. I’ve discovered that cream eyeshadows (aka Quite Natural paint pot applied with any eye precision brush by Sigma) is the easiest and prettiest thing I can do when I just don’t have time. Plus with a 2nd application on the crease and outer corner it looks like you’ve spent 10min working on your eyes when it actually was <1min ;)

I usually wear both! I usually pick a shimmery nude cream shadow, and then top it with a light shimmery champagne or pink for a bright-eyed effect! :) I usually use both no matter what look I’m going for though!

I would prefer powder too!!! It feels safe to use. x)

even though i do LOVE cream eyeshadows, i’d have to say powder just because i’ve found that a lot of the cream eyeshadows i have tend to dry out after time.

  • hanh nguyen

    I like both!!

  • Valeottantadue

I prefer powder eyeshadow.. but I use crem if I’m on a rush or as a base

  • Oshin SR

I use both. But I absolutely adore good quality cream shadows. They are perfect for creating a quick effortless look.

  • Becca

I love Bobbi Brown cream shadows-but I don’t use mine nearly enough. Like you, I just find powder shadows easier to grab and apply in the mornings. I usually just use a single shadow for a sheer wash of color and blend it out really well. That’s my easy morning look. My nights and weekends are for more elaborate looks!

  • melodyy

I love them both! Cream is so easy to slap on and go but powder is so fun to play with and to layer! (:

  • jem83

I like cream eyeshadows but I prefer powder.

  • Mandy

I’ve actually never tried cream eyeshadow. Is fallout less of an issue than with powder eyeshadow?

    • http://www.beautezine.com/ Jessica

      There is virtually none!

Powder, even things that claim they are crease proof like MUFE aqua creams never last on my oily eyelids.

  • Karen Lee

If it’s a fast, quick face I’m putting on, for some reason it’s always cream (I also like the ones you mentioned, as well as a Tarte Amazonian Clay cream shadow I got in a kit). But I use powders when I’m going all out. Mainly because I have more colors available in powders, I think.

  • Kat

powder…I have quite oily eyelids and have the feeling that they just work better for me.

  • AngelitaLaEscapia

Powder- loose or pressed. Cream never seems to be able to stand up to my grease/crease powers- even some of the ones you named above.

  • Cristina

I prefer powder because cream creases too much.
