This Or That: Exfoliating Tools or Scrubs?

I know that I usually am able to make a decision on this This or That questions… but this one really varies depending on the question “how often?”.  For weekly, deep exfoliation, I prefer tools like my Clarisonic Mia. However for a gentle, daily exfoliation I prefer scrubs, like my Bare Escentuals Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser. I find that if I use my Clarisonic too often, it irritates my skin- so I try to only use it once every week or two for a deep cleanse and re-surfacing!

What about you…which do you prefer? If you have an idea for the next This Or That, let us know! We’d love to feature (and answer) your question!

Actually, most tools and scrubs are usually too harsh for my skin, so I go the chemical route. My preferred is a mild glycolic-acid toner.

Exfoliating Tools are a bit to expensive for me at the moment…I prefer scrubs…often home made….like honey and sugar for example…my skin look fantastic

Exfoliating Tools for sure, srubs are tricky with my skin in particular the ingredients used can be more aggravating then a brush or mirco-cloth.

I’ve only ever had one exfoliating tool (Olay’s Pro-X brush), but I prefer scrubs to tools. I feel like I have more control over how gently I can exfoliate when using my fingers, and I don’t have to worry about replacing brush heads.

I love honey & brown sugar as an exfoliating scrub. It’s not too harsh for my skin.

This is what I do too. Anything else is either too harsh, or I’m allergic to it.

i find that I can’t use my clarisonic every day either. 1 x a week is good. I also then do once a week a peel and alternate the next week the philosphy scrub

I would say an exfoliating tool (i.e my Clarisonic) only because now that I have it, it’s just easier. Before I owned one though, I got the same results with a muslin cloth or a very fine scrub (like the Kiehl’s Epidermal Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion).

I like both– but I haven’t used my clarisonic yet– I’m sure I’ll like it :) I’m really excited!

I’ve never used a proper tool so I’ll have to go with scrubs but when I have the cash to get a MIA I will totally try it!

i like switching back and forth between the two. ill use a scrub when im in the shower but my clarisonic before bedtime. i know you said you can only use your clarisonic once a week or so because your skin is sensitive, are you using a normal brush head? or do you have a sensitive or delicate brush head? i have the delicate brush head and i find that i can use it every day on my sensitive skin!

Just the normal one… I might pick up the super sensitive one though!

      • http://twitter.com/ssammmyj Samantha Janette

Definitely! I found that the normal one actually hurt my skin while I was using it so I use that more for body exfoliation in the shower now. The sensitive brush head and delicate brush head are 10x more gentle!
