This Or That: Micellar Solutions or Makeup Removers?

I’ve been using makeup removers for years, especially the dual-phase (oil-based) ones for getting rid of long-wearing eye makeup. It wasn’t until relatively recently (within the last year) I started venturing into the new world of micellar solutions. I’ve gone over the science behind them, but really what it does is form “bubbles” around dirt, oil and makeup which make them easily wiped away. This makes micellar solutions so gentle and soothing, especially to sensitive skin. I have to say that i’m definitely loving micellar solutions more because they don’t leave a residue and can be used on the entire face sans water.

What about you…which do you prefer? If you have an idea for the next This Or That, let us know! We’d love to feature (and answer) your question!

I love Micellar Solutions, they are amazingly gentle to remove makeup and dirt. Bioderma is my favorite, but the one from Avene is excelent too.

since I tried the Bioderma Sensibio H2O last year i’m totally converted, it removes easily all of my makeup, eyes included, since I don’t use waterproof or long lasting stuff, it’s so soothing AND great for my oily but sensitive skin – I’m currently using also the Bioderma Sebium H2O, the one specifically formulated for combination/oily skin, and love it as well :)

I like Bioderma best, but I find its a bit tough to remove my makeup… I usually have to use like 4-5 saturated cotton pads to get REALLY clean… but i’ll do it in the morning instead of washing now! I like using them to take my eye makeup off though :)

Micellar water! If you wear makeup, you need it. If you’re a beauty blogger, it saves your life! I have no idea how I would survive lip swathing sessions without the thing! With a bi-phase remover there is still the greasy residue you have to deal with, with Bioderma it’s a wipe-and-go! I still need a bi-phase one if I’m wearing a very waterproof mascara or liquid liner, but otherwise it works great!

I have heart about them but haven’t seen them in the stores in the US. which do you recommend as the best eye make up remover. Are they ok for contact users?

I love my Makeup Removers for long wear products but Micellars are your best friend. I used the one from Embryolisse. Their Lotion Micellaire (No Rinse Make-Up Remover) replace a need for a toner as it dose a wonderful job of purging your pores of any excess residue and they should be alcohol free which is great for sensitive skin. I use these after using a makeup remover.

I’ve never tried a Micellar solution. Personally I’m a baby-shampoo-and-water kind of girl, but this sounds interesting. What products do you suggest?

Bioderma is my favorite- I’ve tried SO many! I like the SensiBio from their sensitive skin line.

My favorite is Yves St Laurent’s Toning & Cleansing Micellar Water. At $40 a bottle, it isn’t inexpensive, but a little goes a long way. I find that one cotton round gets off my entire face of makeup. You can find it at Sephora or Nordstrom.

Just purchased the Bioderma make up remover. It’s now my favorite eye make up remover.

Micellar solutions? Are these available somewhere in the US? Cause they sound pretty sweet…

I haven’t tried any Micellar solutions. I really want to try the Bioderma Cleanser though!

I’ve never tried any micellar solutions… I guess I should since I have delicate skin.
