This Or That: Mineral or Pressed Powder Foundation?

This Or That: Mineral or Pressed Powder Foundation?

Powder foundation is quick, easy and can be a lifesaver for those with combination or oily skin types. It feels like as air and can look totally natural too. While I love the ease and convenience of pressed powder foundation, I love the skin-boosting benefits of Mineral Foundation. I also love the fact that many formulas are creamy enough for my dry skin to wear them too!

What about you…which do you prefer? If you have an idea for the next This Or That, let us know! We’d love to feature (and answer) your question!

Mineral in full coverage is what I used for Foundation for YEARS because it’s the one kind where I can blend a shade close enough to my ultra fair olive gold skin tone. Pressed powder foundation I only used as a light coverage powder or setting powder.

Pressed powder for me. I like the look and coverage of mineral but every brand I’ve tried I’ve had allergic reactions to. So unfortunately it’s powder for me.

Check to see if it the ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride was in all of them as it’s a know irritant found in almost all high end Mineral brands as the use is as the first ingredient in the base. I makes my skin crawl/itches but other have a more serious reaction to it. In small quantities found in MAC of Bismuth Oxychloride I have not issue with it’s just when they amount is so high as a main component of the product do we see issues with some skin types.

I use Indie brand like Meow Cosmetics, LaurEss (formally Sassy Minerals), Lucy Minerals and Silk Naturals for mineral foundation alot of companies avoid Bismuth Oxychloride.

I prefer pressed powder. Mineral powder makes my skin feel and look oily.

    Pressed Powder one

I use pressed. I’m very very pale and haven’t found mineral foundation that is definitely light enough for me to be willing to shell out the money. I’ve only ever found 2 pressed powders light enough and unfortunately the coverage isn’t the best. Suggestions welcome!

I’m very pale too and I use a combination of coverfx pressed foundation (I’m literally a 0 on their shade scale, haha) which has medium-light coverage and I use fairly light from bare essentuals for more coverage. Bare essentuals is a bit dark on me, but it has medium coverage; coverfx matches me perfectly has a lighter coverage. I just use different amounts depending on the day. I’m not prone to break outs, though but I do have a bit of redness I try to cover.

I haven’t used any but since I have normal to dry skin I’d say mineral is the way to go for me!

neither. I only use liquid foundation. that said, I’d prefer pressed. loose powder is just too messy.

I’ve never really tried a pressed powder foundation before…but I’ve been reading reviews for Dior’s lately and am curious to try that and the Bare Minerals Matte foundation

i normally only use powder to set my liquid foundation because i do have some acne and redness issues that powder doesn’t really cover. i’ve only tried pressed and i really do like it. i neeeed to splurge and get a mac msf natural!

I prefer pressed powder any day, and my MAC mineralized skinfinish natural is the one i go to also. Its perfect!

  • Mandy

Pressed powder, since it plays nice with my oily skin. It’s also a lot easier to use, especially when you’re on the go!

  • melodyy

I loveeee my pressed powder foundation. Mineral foundation scares me because I’m afraid of how cakey it’ll look on my skin :/

  • Cristina

mineral is better because pressed can look to cakey on my dry skin
