We all know how obsessed I am with Crush, and when Urban Decay announced the release of two new shades to the range for Spring 2012- I was beyond excited to see a “pale pink” shade listed. Here we have the Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color in Lovechild ($19 USD / $23 CDN)- and let’s see if she lived up to my expectations…
The Packaging
These lip colours come in pencil form (thick and chunky, similar to the NYX Jumbo Pencils). They sharpen beautifully in the Urban Decay Grindhouse dual grinder (which I received in the 15 Year Anniversary 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil Collection last year about this time), but I’m sure any large sharpener would work. They have a cap which holds on tight- no loose caps wandering freely in your makeup bag with this baby. Overall it’s a sleek pencil that really does have a lot to offer than meet’s the eye…
The Product
The line of Urban Decay Super-Saturated High Gloss pencils are a really phenomenal formula; much better than I was expecting. The pigmentation is incredible, even with this light shade, it really has medium to full coverage on the lips (and I have pretty pigmented lips)! It has a glossy sheen (not like a goopy gloss, but enough to give a shine to the lips) and since it applies like a pencil, you have total control with no need for a lip liner! They stay put, don’t migrate and the cherry on top is that they are actually super long-lasting. You probably wouldn’t think so, for such a creamy, smooth and moisturizing formula…but I was beyond surprised when I didn’t have to reapply throughout the day! The color was just…still there!
Lovechild, described as a “pale pink”, is a beautiful soft powdery pink shade…but I wouldn’t call it pale. I was expecting a nude pink…a PALE pink. This is definitely more of a mid-tone pink to me, as its in the same shade range as my pigmented lips. It’s gorgeous none-the-less, but I was just expecting something else. Maybe if I cross my fingers and hope hard enough, Urban Decay will release some more wearable, light and nude shades.
The pencil does come with a pretty hefty price tag- but to me it’s worth it because it’s so much more than just a lip color. It removes the need to use a lip liner, lipstick, lipgloss and re-apply them all through the day. To me, that’s worth every penny. So all in all, I’m in love with the formula, but slightly disappointed the color wasn’t the pale nude pink I was expecting. Still pretty though! Not complaining.
