One of the most exciting launches from the Urban Decay Holiday 2013 lineup is the Urban Decay Vice 2 Palette ($59 USD / $68 CAD), a 20-piece eyeshadow palette with a double-ended brush included as well. This “Vice” sequel is available now at Sephora.
This palette contains a mixture of textures and shades that range from soft neutrals to bright colors to deep smoky blacks. The majority of the palette is quite shimmery (as usual), however it does include two basic matte essentials.
The shades include:
- Smokeout: Satin black
- Lovesick: Black with iridescent glitter
- Shellshock: Metallic silver
- Coax: Metallic pink
- X-rated: Satin baby pink
- Prank: Deep navy with pearl
- Madness: Shimmery bright blue
- Strike: Metallic antique gold
- Stash: Deep, shimmery olive green
- Poison: Charcoal with sparkle
- Radar: Metallic brown shimmer
- Damaged: Shimmery emerald green
- Voodoo: Shimmery purple
- Betrayal: Duocrhome indigo shimmer
- Derailed: Metallic taupe
- Dope: Satin champagne pink
- Toxic: Metallic copper pink
- Habit: Matte nude
- Ambush: Metallic brown
- Rewaind: Matte mid-tone brown
The formula of Urban Decay eyeshadows is consistently wonderful- they are richly pigmented, smooth and buttery, and apply like a dream. They blend well, hold up well on the eyelid and have beautiful textures. Palettes like this one are a great value, especially for someone who likes to experiment with color.
The packaging is really beautiful and the huge interior mirror makes this palette a dream to travel with. The double-ended brush is fantastic as well- I love Urban Decay’s synthetic brushes! This one has a dense shader end and a larger, fluffy end for blending.
The vast majority of these shades are awesome, just as I expected. The entire third row was super impressive, but I also liked Shellshock, Stash and Ambush as well. This palette doesn’t have the most unique shades, but it has a little bit of everything. As per usual, I wish there were more matte shades, however having the nude and brown mattes as well as a few satins help this palette to be more flexible.
While I still prefer palettes like Naked Palette or Smoked Palette, I think this palette would be a great winner for those who love intense, vibrant looks with color and shimmer.
