Vaseline Cocoa Butter Vitalizing Body Gel Oil Review, Photos & Swatches

I mentioned yesterday that I’ve been using this Vaseline Cocoa Butter Vitalizing Body Gel Oil ($7.50 USD), and the response was quite interesting! Many of you wondered how it was, or that you loved it too, but many of you were very skeptical because its a mineral oil based product… so! Let’s check it out a bit more thoroughly!

The Packaging

The product comes in a translucent bottle with a flip top lid. I like the sleek look of the bottle, but one of my biggest gripes about this product is that flip top lid. Because this is an oil, it can get a little messy (who am I kidding, it can get really messy)! The lid doesn’t close completely unless you make sure to hear it click and just in general I find it gets really greasy and oily even when I’m trying to be careful. I’d MUCH rather prefer it in a pump-top bottle…I think I’ll just empty out mine into one.

The Product

The biggest criticism that I heard my readers saying about this product was that it’s mineral oil based, so it won’t absorb into your skin. But the way the product is meant to be used, isn’t really as a moisturizer… its more as a product that helps lock in moisture, especially after a shower.  Most body oil gels are meant to be applied right after a bath or shower to prevent the moisture your skin just absorbed from evaporating away. The oils also help to boost your natural moisture barrier and provide minerals and antioxidants to your skin.  Not to mention the heavenly, celebrity-worthy glow it leaves you with (i’ll never wear anything showing off my legs without this on them…it’s the healthiest looking glow I’ve ever seen).

It smells amazing (cocoa butter, brazillian nut and almond oil, I’m sure you can imagine how lovely it smells) and a little goes a LONG way.  It can leave you feeling a little greasy if you use too much…I like to take a pea size amount and rub it between my hands really fast to warm it up and thin it out, then apply it. I find I apply way less by doing this and it doesn’t leave me feeling greasy.

So all in all, yes it’s not the best moisturizer itself, but it helps your body to retain moisture, lock it in and it leaves you with such a gorgeous glow.  It’s fairly inexpensive, especially for the amount of product you use also. And the best part? My skin is just as silky smooth, soft and glowing when I’m going to bed as it is when I first apply it!
