Published On January 6, 2012 | Daily Beauty

One of my New Years Resolutions was to moisturize my body more…particularly my legs post-shave.  I’ve been reaching for this Vaseline Cocoa Butter Vitalizing Gel Body Oil (About $7.50 USD) a lot, and it sure does the job. I’ve listed all the pro’s and con’s in out the full review here!

interested in your thoughts. anything with oil i’m usually weary of. they never seem to sink into the skin, just sit on top.

I agree with Lauren. I’ve never had much success with body oils.

You’re absolutely right, this is a mineral oil based product, so it doesn’t sink in. Mineral oil and other petroleum products do not moisturizer, but instead create a barrier. So it keeps moisture in, but doesn’t add any of it’s own. The barrier it forms is why it doesn’t feel like it sinks in.

Not all oil products are this way, just petroleum based ones. A product made from soybean, or almond oil will sink in, though they will take longer to do do since they are heavier than oil free lotions.

I like to mix this oil gel with lotion when I feel extra-dry.

I always smell this when I go in Target thinking one day I’ll pick it up. I’m just in love with the scent, just worried about how it soaks into the skin!

I love this product. I use it straight after a shower. I really does keep my skin moisturise :)

Body gel oil, that’s a new one for me! Never heard of it :D

In regards to the oil comments above, I always use body oils (mostly Weleda, so they are natural oils, not mineral) and they absorb into my skin very fast, especially if you apply it immediately when the skin is still moist. Works much better than any body milk or body butter for me (although I do like TBS body butters too)
