It’s hard not to be skeptical when you hear about products that are almost entirely made up of water. If it’s water, then why spend the money, right? But if you haven’t gotten on board with the magic that is Vichy’s Mineralizing Thermal Water, you’re seriously missing out. Yes, it’s water. But it’s not just any water—it’s water sourced directly from volcanoes Vichy, France that comes packed with 15 different kinds of minerals to hydrate and heal skin—and it’s been doing exactly that for over 80 years.
What’s so great about the new Vichy Minéral 89 ($29.50) is that it takes the thermal water that we already know and love and gives it a boost and applies it to another layer of skin and skincare. The result? Super-hydrated skin.
Formulated with 89% Mineralizing Thermal Water (the most the brand has ever been able to pack into one of its skincare products, not counting the actual water which is, well, the water) and moisture-loving hyaluronic acid, this product aims to boost skin’s hydration levels for improved elasticity and firmness (because—say it with me—hydrated skin is happy skin!). The formula only contains 11 ingredients total, making it great for the most sensitive skin types as well.
At first glance, Minéral 89 doesn’t look like much—the clear, fragrance-free watery gel had me second-guessing a brand that I’ve loved for years (I’m hanging my head in shame). But once I started using it over top of my Mineralizing Thermal Water, I noticed that the redness that normally creeps up around my cheeks and nose started to slowly diminish (admittedly, it might’ve happened faster if I were better with my nighttime skincare routine) and my skin has looked and felt so much more hydrated, even though I’ve been favouring rosé and cold brew coffee over my daily water intake.
It’s a no-brainer booster when your skin is dehydrated, tight and in need of some serious quenching. Jessica slathered the stuff on before applying a sleeping mask on an overnight flight couldn’t believe how fresh and dewy her skin was when she landed (you know how badly airplanes can suck the life out of your skin)!
The best part about the formula is that it’s so lightweight that it won’t interfere with your regular routine, but rather will work in conjunction with it. It is an extra step right in between your thermal water and serum, but if you’re someone who suffers with dehydrated skin (me!) it’s one worth doing. And at the budget-friendly price tag, the unassuming water-like booster is worth a second glance. If you don’t believe me, try a drop on the back of one hand and see the difference in texture, appearance and feel.shop this story
