I’ve reviewed a few products from YBF already, and they are a brand that I haven’t heard but of- but should be hearing much more. Every product I try from them blows me away! This YBF Liplights Ultra Shiny Gloss Trio in “Wines” ($19.80 USD for all 3) is no different.
The Packaging
The trio comes with three lip glosses, all packaged in a squeeze-tube format with a plastic angled tip applicator. While I typically enjoy this packaging, I feel like these lip glosses would be benefited much more from a doe-foot or brush-tip applicator instead, and I’ll explain why a bit later.
The Formula
The lip glosses all feel and smell the same- they have a very slight fruity smell, it’s not over-powering at all but its definitely there. The formula feels quite thin and not sticky at all. It’s very smooth and silky, however this makes me feel as if its sitting on top of my lips and not really getting a good hold on them. This also comes into play with the pigmentation- these glosses are SO pigmented, even a little too pigmented for a gloss of this sort. They look beautiful when applied (however I needed to use a brush because as I hinted before, the slant-tip just wouldn’t cut it for such dark, pigmented colours), but I feel almost scared they are going to end up half way down my face if I’m not careful. Gorgeous colours, amazing pigmentation but I would prefer the gloss to be a bit more sticky or have a little more thickness to it, so I don’t feel like its going to move. They all wear very comfortably, however the longevity didn’t stand up to my hopes (usually thin, non-sticky lip glosses don’t hold up very well). But they would be a great option for those who love pigment and hate tackiness!
The Colors
The trios each come with three different shades; in this case of the “wines” collection, it comes with the following:
Vivid Violet
A gorgeous shimmering violet pink with champagne sparkle. My favorite out of the trio, because its the most wearable for everyday.
Luminous Lilac
A creamy mauve with silver micro shimmer. A gorgeous day to night color!
Glimmering Grape
A deep purple wine with no visible shimmer on the lips. A sultry, vampy color.
There are two other trios available, Pinks and Neutrals….I’d LOVE to try the Pinks because I feel like they would just be more wearable for me. While I love the comfort of the formula, the deep wines aren’t really for me…however these glosses are pretty impressive so I’d definitely give some other shades a shot! The value is incredible too, at less than $7 per gloss, you’re getting high end quality for drugstore prices!
Summary
- Price: $19.80 USD for all 3 glosses
- Availability: YBF
- Overall: Smooth feel, amazing pigmentation, no stickiness- I think that a the squeeze-tube may not have been the best choice for application as I feel like I need a brush for how pigmented they are. Feels comfortable, but I’d prefer a bit more thickness and substance for a gloss of such intense color.
