Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation Review, Photos & Swatches

Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation

I used to be a huge mineral makeup junkie… before I got into blogging, I was absolutely obsessed with Bare Escentuals and everything they made. It almost made me feel like no other mineral foundation on the market was comparable, but then I met this Youngblood Natural Mineral Foundation ($42 USD) and I was sure proven wrong.

The Packaging

At first glance, the packaging is super sleek and beautiful, just like all the other Youngblood products.  It’s packaged a little differently then most loose powders or mineral foundations- the “sieve” part of the packaging (the part with the tiny holes to dispense the product) is raised, to the point that it touches the cap, preventing excess product to come out when it is closed.

At first I thought this was pretty genius, and it does work pretty well when traveling, but I encountered my first problem with it when I had some excess foundation in the lid after I was done… I couldn’t just put the lid back on, it would go everywhere (since there’s no place in the jar for it to go… so I had to turn the bottom upside down to put the lid back on… Now I feel like it’s a vicious circle of me having to be careful when opening it, and opening it update down for fear of making a mess.

The Product

I feel a bit bad for being so negative towards the packaging, because the product is actually incredible. It’s the creamiest, smoothest and most flawless mineral foundation I’ve ever tried!  Even the original Bare Escentuals foundation makes my skin look too dry now, but this one blended like silk and made my skin glow (without looking shimmery at all). Seriously, it was just flawless skin.

Also- this stuff has some major pigmentation…I was seriously impressed. Whenever I wear mineral foundation, I usually concealer first then lightly apply the foundation on top…but I wanted to see what this stuff could really do on its own. The result? I didn’t have anything to conceal after! I was beyond impressed.  I received two “fair” shades to use (on a scale of very fair – fair – medium – dark):

  • Neutral: This shade has a neutral undertone, and while it is great for most light skin tones, it can look a little “pink” on olive skin tones like mine.
  • Barely Beige: This shade has a yellow undertone, and while I usually reach for these shades of foundation, because of its intense pigmentation I found it to be a bit TOO yellow for me.

The good news? Mixing equal parts of these two shades makes the perfect shade for me! They have a good shade range to choose from and even though the product is quite pricey, the amount you need is so tiny, even I was shocked.  Keep an eye out for me wearing this foundation in upcoming looks and videos!
